10 Perception Vs. Reality

Before they actually have children of their own, many future parents imagine idyllic moments spend with their little ones which will make for amazing photos they'll be able to cherish forever and proudly show to anyone interested. But the reality is far different from what the internet would like the people to believe. Chances are high that instead of having a perfect photo of you and your child peacefully sleeping together, you'll end up like the woman in the bottom half of the meme, who barely has enough space to sleep in her own bed since her baby takes up most of the bed.

It may look foolish and paranoid to think that your child has malicious intent and is determined to make sure that you'll get as little rest as humanly possible. Then again, no-one quite knows what happens in a baby's mind, and until they're old enough to talk, and express the thoughts inside their heads, it's impossible to guess what they're really thinking.

That said, this meme believes that children are attuned to your moods, and if they sense that you're looking forward to the moment when they will shut their eyes and go to sleep, they will abort the mission and go back to being fully awake.

There's a reason why so many people wait a few years or more before they decide to have another child. Potential health issues aside (it takes a while for a woman to be able to get pregnant again without difficulties), there's also the fact that having two small children is even more difficult than having just one, especially if you're first time parent. People who have no children might try to be sympathetic, but they usually can't understand what it's really like to take care of small children unless they grew up with younger siblings and have been taking care of them.

Many people believe that staying at home with your child means you have nothing to do and can just chill and do what you want all day, but that couldn't be further from the truth. If your child is barely sleeping, you're also on your feet most of the time, and that means you're probably too exhausted to find the time or energy for any of your hobbies.

1 The Complete Opposite

Do you know how some people like to do the complete opposite of whatever you ask them to do (hint: these people are usually called your teenage children)? Children have the tendency to react in the most unexpected ways, and while it means you'll never be bored, it can also be just a little bit too exciting.
